As we agonize over the fate of Malaysia Airlines MH370 which disappeared a few days ago with 239 people on board, let us also not forget the victims of a devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Eastern Japan 3 years ago today, on 11 March 2011.
The tragedy that hit the Tōhoku Region in 2011 left 15,884 people dead, 6,147 injured, and 2,636 missing, as well as the total collapse of 127,290 buildings, severe damage to 272,788 buildings, and partial damage to a further 747,989 buildings. After 3 years, people in the affected areas are still scarred by the great loss of lives, livelihood, and normalcy.
Let us strengthen our spirits and compassionate thoughts for all people in need of help and support. Let us pray for beings that are suffering, and wish them swift relief. To the people of Malaysia, Japan, and everywhere else, our thoughts are with you. Peace.
