Little-known but significant anniversary of “777”

Bro. Tan conducting a lecture for the Institute's latest course offering - BPS402 - held on 5 July 2014.

7 July 2007 (popularly celebrated back then as “777”) witnessed the first programme ever organized by the newly-established ‘Nalanda Institute Malaysia’.  It was the ‘BPS138 Commentarial Course on Mangala Sutta’, conducted by Nalanda Institute’s Founder-Director Bro. H S Tan.  The main hall of the old ‘Nalanda Dharma Centre’ was packed with more than 70 participants all deeply inspired after attending the full-day course.

Since that pilot programme in July 2007, Nalanda Institute has grown tremendously in the last 7 years.  It is widely recognized today as one of the leading institutions for Buddhist Studies in Malaysia.  The Institute has to date organised more than 150 programmes, seminars, conferences, study tours, and training courses that have benefited upwards of 9,200 participants.

This achievement is possible only with the commitment, unstinting efforts and passion of a small band of volunteer-officers who firmly believe in holistic Buddhist education!  Thus, on this little-known but significant (the ‘real’ 7th) anniversary of Nalanda Institute’s first-ever programme, we offer our salutations and biggest thanks to our visionary Founder-Director Bro. Tan, our past Director Achariya Vijaya and present one Achariya Tan Siang Chye, Institute officers past and present, lecturers, volunteers, benefactors, and all participants of our programmes.

Our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of you for making this celebration possible and meaningful for us at Nalanda Institute!  Maha Sadhu.
