1 July 2014 marks the 7th Anniversary of Nalanda Institute Malaysia. Since its establishment in 2007, the Institute has been organizing many short and medium-term courses up to Higher Certificate level, commentarial courses, meditation workshops, pilgrimages to India and Nepal, study tours locally and abroad, and leadership and management training programmes aplenty.
Nalanda Intitute’s courses were not just held at our main centre in Sri Serdang, but has been brought to different states in Malaysia by partnering local organisations in Kedah, Kelantan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah. In collaboration with the Buddhist Fellowship, the Institute had also offered our commentarial courses in Singapore.
Nalanda Institute is also the main organizer of WACANA – the premier Buddhist Conference in Malaysia gathering learned teachers, community leaders, educators and practitioners – to discuss pertinent issues affecting the Buddhist movement. So far, four editions of WACANA Conference have been held. To date, the Institute’s many programmes have benefited more than 9,200 participants throughout Malaysia and regionally!
We wish to record our unreserved thanks to our Founding Director Achariya Dr. H S Tan, our immediate-past Director Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, lecturers, all officers past and present, benefactors, supporters, volunteers, as well as our alumni, for having faith and confidence in the Institute, and for your contributions over the past seven years. We would like to congratulate and warmly welcome our new Director Achariya Tan Siang Chye, who will lead the Institute in the coming years, hopefully to even greater heights.
Nalanda Institute looks forward to doing more for the community, and for the advancement of Buddhist studies and practice. We have faith that with such lofty aspirations and matching efforts, the Buddha-Sāsana will continue its glorious shine for the happiness and well-being of many more!
Happy 7th Anniversary! Sadhu anumodantu.
