“Today, we lost a Malaysian”

Nalanda Buddhist Society extends our deepest condolences to the family of the late Yang Berhormat Karpal Singh.

In the early hours of 17 April 2014, Yang Berhormat Tuan Karpal Singh – prominent lawyer, politician, and Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor – died in a car accident on the North-South Highway en route to Penang.

Nalanda Buddhist Society extends our deepest condolences to Madam Gurmit Kaur and the family of the late Yang Berhormat.  We also offer our condolences to the family of his aide Mr. C. Michael who similarly perished in the tragedy.  May their families find solace in spirituality, and in the prayers and appreciative thoughts of many Malaysians.

There is a local saying, “Harimau mati tinggalkan belang, orang mati tinggalkan nama” – a tiger dies leaving its stripes; a person passes on leaving his name.  One would be remembered by his lifetime deeds.  We pay tribute to the late Y. B. Karpal Singh for his many fine and courageous deeds in upholding justice, and for his excellent service to this nation and its people over the years.

Today, we have lost another Malaysian.
May he now rest in Peace, Santī.
