It has been 2 months since the tragic downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukrainian airspace on 17 July, while on its routine flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The shock caused by this despicable act reverberated throughout the world – there was simply no excuse for such a horrific and senseless attack on an innocent civil airliner!
The great loss of lives from this MH17 incident and the earlier MH370 calamity had cast a pall over our recent ‘Merdeka’ and ‘Malaysia Day’ celebrations. Our nation is still reeling from the trauma of this double catastrophe. However, Malaysians had proven time and again that we do have the fortitude and resilience to overcome challenges. In fact, the twin losses of MH17 and MH370 have bound our people together in greater unity.
In the meantime, we are continuing our prayers for the victims of MH17 and their remaining loved ones. We wish them much strength, courage, and peace in facing this heart-wrenching period. Our thoughts are with you constantly. ‘Santi’ – Peace.
