Nalanda Institute’s BPS402 Higher Certificate Course participants have recently advanced into Module 2 of the programme covering the “Historical Development of Buddhism”. On Saturday 6 September, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama conducted Lecture 6 on the subject of “Pre-Buddhist Indian Religious Thoughts”.
Quoting the Brahmajala Sutta, Sāmaññaphala Sutta, and other discourses, Achariya Vijaya gave a wonderful account of Indian religious beliefs and practices before the advent of Buddhism. Participants were delighted to learn about the great variety of spiritual thoughts, rituals and customs during ancient times, and how those age-old traditions still affect the views of contemporary societies.
