In his talk, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan explained the aspects of wisdom, integrity and compassion in effective leadership.

On Saturday 21 November, youths from various higher educational institutions came for a talk on Buddhist leadership as part of a “Fellowship Undergraduate Network” (F.U.N.) session organised by Nalanda Youth Centre. In his talk, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan explained the aspects of wisdom, integrity and compassion in effective leadership.

He also encouraged the youths to be discerning and not give in to the pressures of negative social norms which are detrimental to their well-being. He said it is imperative that one lives by wholesome principles as that is an integral quality of a good leader.

Besides urging the students to use the Dhamma as a moral compass so that they may be aware of their own defilements and to transform themselves inside out, Bro. Tan also emphasised that it was essential to acquire skills which could influence others positively.

He concluded the Dhamma-sharing by asking the students to reflect on Dhammapada Verse 25: “By effort, heedfulness, discipline, and self-mastery, let the wise one make of oneself, an island where no flood can overcome”, reminding the students not to be inundated by the flood of greed, anger and delusion.
