21 August was another eventful Sunday at Nalanda Centre with several programmes taking place simultaneously. At the morning service, Nalanda Institute Director Achariya Tan Siang Chye gave a talk on the importance of having gratitude towards our elders and teachers.
Achariya Siang Chye spoke at length about the quality of “garava” – reverence. The Buddha taught that it was a blessing to revere those worthy of reverence, such as virtuous, wise and saintly people. Such a quality is essential for spiritual progress because humility and modesty allows the mind to be open to spiritual learning and character development.
The service concluded with the offering of lunch to venerable monks, together with the dedication of merits to all sentient beings. Sadhu anumodana.
