Want to donate your Indian Rupees?

Samples of the two notes are shown in the photograph.

Samples of the ₹500 and ₹1000 notes which will be demonetized at the end of 2016.

On 8 November, India announced that all existing ₹500 and ₹1000 notes will be demonetized.  If you’re still holding on to those denominations, try exchanging them with the money-changer soonest possible.  After 30 December, the two notes will effectively be worthless scraps of paper.

An alternative will be to donate your ₹500 and ₹1000 notes.  Nalanda Institute is organising a pilgrimage to India from 16 to 30 December – one of the last India-bound Malaysian groups in 2016.  The group will visit all major sacred Buddhist sites such as Lumbini, Bodhgaya, Sarnath, Kusinara, Rajagaha, Vaishali, etc.  While there, pilgrims will be offering donations to temples, schools for needy children, and reputable local charities.

If you wish to donate your ₹500 and ₹1000 notes, you may do so at Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang before 14 December.  The 74-member pilgrimage group will help you offer to charities in India.
