Nalanda Buddhist Society would like to thank His Majesty Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah of Kedah who is stepping down as the 14th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong today after a successful five-year reign. His Majesty was elected Malaysia’s Supreme Ruler for the second time on 13 December 2011. He was the country’s 5th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong from 1970 to 1975.
Currently, Tuanku Abdul Halim is the world’s second longest-reigning monarch after Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, having been the 27th Sultan of Kedah since 1958. His Majesty will be escorted back to his state capital Alor Setar to a grand ‘welcome home’ reception by Kedahans.
Tomorrow, Malaysians will welcome our 15th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong – His Majesty Tuanku Muhammad Faris Petra, the Sultan of Kelantan. His Majesty will assume the highest office on 13 December 2016.
We extend our felicitations to both Their Majesties Tuanku Abdul Halim and Tuanku Muhammad Faris Petra with wishes for peace and happiness throughout the nation. Dirgahayu Tuanku!
