Ayya Santinī gave a concise introduction to Buddhist meditation with emphasis on ‘Satipatthāna’.

In October 2016, Nalanda Centre was honoured to host a visit by Venerable Ayya Santinī, a senior Theravada bhikkhuni from Indonesia.  Nalandians grabbed the opportunity to invite Ayya Santinī for a Dhamma talk after our weekly Wednesday meditation session.

Ayya Santinī gave a concise introduction to Buddhist meditation with special emphasis on the practice of Satipatthāna, explaining that its purpose is to gain insight into reality of Aniccā, Dukkhā and Anattā within ourselves.

Ayya included many similes and anecdotes in her talk; she shared a story where one of her students thought of herself as stagnating in meditation even after striving hard for many years.  Ayya said that we may actually be progressing little by little, even if we do not realise it yet.

If we think that we are not improving even though we practise, would it not be worse if we do not meditate at all?  That is certainly food for thought!  We thank Ayya Santinī for her visit and wonderful teachings as always.  Sadhu anumodana.
