His Royal Highness will be deeply missed by the people of Kedah and Malaysia.

Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia offers our deepest condolence to the royal family and people of Kedah over the demise of Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the beloved Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman.  His Royal Highness passed away at 2.30pm today, aged 89.

Tuanku Abdul Halim was born on 28 November 1927.  On 14 July 1958, he ascended the throne of Kedah after the demise of his father, Sultan Badlishah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah.  He was installed as the Sultan of Kedah on 20 February 1959.  He was one of the longest reigning Malay Sultans of the modern era.

Tuanku Abdul Halim received his early education in Alor Setar.  He later attended Wadham College in Oxford, the United Kingdom.  He made history by being elected the Yang DiPertuan Agong (His Majesty the King of Malaysia) twice, when he reigned as the 5th Agong from 1970 to 1975, and for the second time as the 14th Agong from 2011 to 2016.

Sultan Abdul Halim was known for his compassion towards his people.  He carried out his duties with a deep sense of responsibility and benevolence.  His Royal Highness will be deeply missed by the people of Kedah and Malaysia.  May he rest in Peace.
