The powerful earthquake caused the collapse of many buildings, trapping helpless people inside.

As we observe the New-moon Uposatha today, let us direct our thoughts and prayers to the victims of yesterday’s strong earthquake near Mexico City.  More than 200 people have perished in collapsed buildings, and many are still missing.

Incidentally, the magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred on the anniversary of a larger quake which devastated Mexico City in 1985, killing 10,000 people back then.

Let us dedicate merits to the victims of this disaster.  We pray for those who lost their lives in the tragedy; and may the injured recover soonest.  Sotthi.
