The Buddhist community in Klang Valley came together for the past few days to pay tribute to the late Madam Chin Kim Lan or better known as Aunty Tan, and to bid her a final farewell.

Aunty Tan passed away peacefully on 28 October, aged 92.  Her four-day wake period saw droves of monks, nuns, community leaders, and Buddhist friends coming to her residence to pay tribute to a wonderful person whose good work to support the Buddha-Sāsana spanned half a century and reached across many countries.

Aunty Tan’s funeral on Wednesday afternoon saw a large turnout of relatives and Buddhist friends.

Similarly, her funeral on Wednesday 1 November saw a large turnout, no doubt a testimony to the positive influence Aunty Tan had had over many people.  To those privileged to know her and to have worked with her, she was the embodiment of grace, fortitude, discipline and dedication.

Over the decades, Aunty Tan had been greatly respected as a community elder. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious “Nalanda Award in Leadership Integrity” – a strong recognition by the Buddhist community for her wonderful services to the Buddha-Sāsana, and her excellent qualities as a leader.

Members of Nalanda Buddhist Society and Nalanda Institute are honoured to have known Aunty Tan over the years.  Much have we learned from her graceful ways and wise thoughts.  Nalandians bid Aunty Tan a fortunate journey ahead, and speedy attainment of liberation.  Santī – Peace.
