It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing away of our Dhamma comrade, Datuk Kenny Chan of Seck Kia Eenh Melaka, on Tuesday, 12 June.  Nalanda founder Bro.Tan, Education Committee Chairman Achariya S. Vijaya, the Board of Management and members of Nalanda Buddhist Society would like to convey our deepest condolences to Sis. Fern Loo and her family on the demise of Datuk Kenny.

Datuk Kenny Chan has long been a friend and supporter of Nalanda.  Since our establishment in 2003, he had brought many groups of monks and visitors to Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang.  Just days before he passed away, he had conversations with Bro.Tan on organising camps and novitiate programmes for teenagers.  Such was his dedication to Buddhist education and Dhamma dissemination.

Datuk Kenny was a prominent Buddhist community leader and elder in Melaka.  He was renowned for his melodious chanting of Pāli suttas and gathas in the Sri Lankan style, and had trained many devotees to recite the stanzas as well.  His infectious humour was also used to great effect in teaching the Dhamma on numerous occasions.

The Malaysian Buddhist community has lost a good friend and elder in Datuk Kenny.  With the merits he accrued throughout his decades of contribution to the Buddha-Sāsana, may he be reborn in a fortunate plane, and enjoy peace and happiness.

TOMORROW NIGHT (Wednesday, 13 June) is the first day of Nalanda’s annual Gimhāna Retreat (13 June – 29 July).  Nalanda founder Bro.Tan will be leading the meditation session and Dhamma teaching from 8pm to 10pm, and thereafter dedicate merits to the late Datuk Kenny Chan.  May he rest in peace – Santi.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENT – Saturday, 16 June 2018

The cortege will leave Datuk Kenny’s residence at 9am to Seck Kia Eenh in Jalan Gajah Berang Melaka for chanting and final rites; thereafter leave for the crematorium.  Members of the public may pay their last respects at the temple.
