This afternoon, a lone gunman stormed into two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and opened fire randomly at worshipers, killing 50 people and injuring dozens others. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described this act of terrorism as one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”.
We as citizens of the world should unanimously denounce all acts of terrorism and violence, which can never be justified. But in our universal condemnation, we should not give in to hate – for hatred will not cease with more hatred.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this tragedy and their loved ones, as well as the people of New Zealand. ‘Kia kaha’ – May they stay strong!
