Today, 10 April, the Prime Minister announced the extension of the ‘Movement Control Order’ (MCO) in Malaysia until 28 April 2020. Following this, we would like to announce that Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang and our branch centres in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani will also remain closed until the lifting of MCO.
The massive national lock-down is deemed necessary to control the viral spread of Covid-19. Despite already undergoing one-month of MCO since 18 March, Malaysia still registered more than 4,300 cases of infection with 70 deaths. Thus we implore everyone in the country to practise good personal hygiene and social distancing to curb further proliferation of infections.
At the same time, we urge the authorities to consider the adverse effects of a prolonged lock-down which prevents people from schooling, working and earning an income. The underprivileged and disadvantaged segments of the population will suffer more acutely under such conditions, and thus warrant the close attention of the federal, state and local governments.
It takes united and concerted efforts by the people and authorities to overcome this virulent pandemic. Therefore, it is important that citizens trust our government leaders to handle this crisis, and for our leaders to truly become compassionate, unbiased, integral and trustworthy in handling this disaster. Standing together as Malaysians, we shall eventually prevail. Thank you, and stay safe.
