2nd memorial of Venerable Dhammavuddho

Ven. Dhammavuddho dedicated his life to learning, realising and teaching the Dhamma, inspiring many monks and laity to walk the Middle Path.

22 December 2021 marks the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Venerable Dhammavuddho Mahāthera, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent who dedicated his life to the Dhamma.  The late Ven. Dhammavuddho was ordained in the Theravada tradition in 1986 and later founded Vihara Buddha Gotama, a forest monastery in Perak dedicated to the practice and propagation of the Buddha’s discourses and monastic discipline.

His legacy of a life well-lived continues to inspire many people today, having persevered through formidable obstacles in order to learn the Buddha’s teachings.  Ardently sharing the Dhamma for the benefit of others, Ven. Dhamamvuddho authored numerous Dhamma books, delivered talks relatable to the local communities and recorded expositions on the five Nikāyas systematically.

Travelling around Malaysia and many parts of the world, Venerable Dhammavuddho reached out to Buddhists and tirelessly taught the Dhamma.  Photo above is taken in 2017 at Nalanda Centre.

Let us together pay tribute to this astute practitioner of Dhamma by reading his books or listening to his recorded talks on the Sutta-Vināya, and thereafter dedicate merits to him. With reverence and gratitude in our hearts, we wish Ven. Dhammavuddho the highest blessings of Peace.  May he attain the final bliss of Nibbāna.

“The dhamma is a compass that gives us the right direction in life and we use it in our everyday life, reflecting on our bodily actions, our speech, our mind (feelings, thoughts, perceptions, attitudes, etc.), and the dhamma, and developing (bhavana) our mind, our character”
