Start of Dhamma learning journey

Start of Dhamma learning journey

Over the weeks, facilitators and participants have formed friendships as they support each other in their learning.

Since 7 August, 35 new Buddhists and parents of new Dhamma School students have been learning fundamental Buddhist teachings, aspects of Buddhist culture and etiquette to start their Dhamma learning journey in ‘Svagatam Inspiring Programme’.

It is essential for Dhamma learners to establish a right understanding of the reasons and values underlying many common practices, so that we stay clear of misconceptions and blind obeisance. In the instance of Buddhist etiquette, the underlying principle of paying respects to the ‘Three Jewels’, and in greeting our Dhamma friends, is the cultivation of respect and mindfulness in our daily activities.

Sis. Joanne Tan hosts the weekly sessions at K. Sri Dhammananda Centre.

Sis. Nandini Tan explained about Buddhist etiquette which has its roots in the values and virtues taught by the Buddha.

Sis. Buddhini Tan shared a basic understanding of kamma emphasing on the importance of our intention of our speech, thoughts and actions.

Upon the completion of the programme yesterday, we would like to extend our appreciation to all facilitators, volunteers and participants of the programme for their dedication and learning spirit. We wish our participants continued learning and discovery on this wholesome journey with the support of good friends. Sukhi hontu.

Sis. Buddhini Tan shared a basic understanding of kamma emphasing on the importance of our intention of our speech, thoughts and actions.

Participants were also brought on a building tour to discover the myriad of Dhamma symbolism within Nalanda Centre.

Working as a group, participants answered quiz questions on what they had learned.

Participants practiced gratitude and reflection in this hands-on activity.
