We thank Dr. Chen, the organisers and participants for making the first of the Horticulture and Landscaping Course a fruitful learning experience for all.

On Sunday 9 October, participants of the Horticulture & Landscaping Course (HCL 001) completed their course with a study trip to the Botanical Garden at Putrajaya.  The educational tour was led by Dr. Chen, lead of the Landscaping Team at Wisdom Park and focused mainly on the trees in the Park’s botanical theme sector of ‘Forest Fringe’.

Participants were introduced to the various species of Southeast Asian forest trees; juvenile saplings of these same native species have also been planted at Wisdom Park.  They learned about the features, growth and uses of the mature specimens at the Botanical Garden.  Reflecting that these forest trees take decades to develop into lush canopies, we rejoice in being able to plant them for the comfort and refuge of Dhamma practitioners in years to come.

The trip started at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. Participants took refuge in the Three Jewels and had a briefing before heading out as a group.

We extend our appreciation to Dr. Chen, the organisers and course participants for their dedication and efforts in the successful completion of this inaugural programme.  As the greenery on the grounds of Wisdom Park take shape, the Landscaping Team and volunteers will play a more crucial role in its proper maintenance and care.  Sadhu anumodana!

The group looks at the Amherstia nobilis, known widely as the ‘Pride of Burma’. It might well be the prettiest among all flowering plants, having earned the title “Queen of Flowering Trees”.

Elephant Fern (Angiopteris evecta) is a very large rainforest fern native to most parts of Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Participants of HCL 001 and regular volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to see and learn about the fully grown specimen of trees in Putrajaya.
