Giving with happiness before, during and after

Giving with happiness before, during and after

We are thankful to Venerables for giving the community this precious opportunity to make offerings to the Sangha.

The virtue of ‘Giving’ is the the first step on the path to liberation, helping to purify the mind.  The immediate effect of calm and relinquishment yields much joy just as we had witnessed at the pindacāra (monks on alms-round) last Saturday 18 January at Seri Kembangan markets. Eagerly and respectfully, stall vendors and market-goers prepared and extended their offerings to venerable monks who walked the alms route serenely.

Ven. Dhamitha who last visited Nalanda in 2017 as a Sri Lankan top scholar, shared that he was moved, both then and now, by the efforts of so many members and volunteers to avail Dhamma programmes to the community as well as inculcate the Buddha’s teachings in their lives.  To our rejoice, he shared that many of the visiting monks then, are now teaching Dhamma in various temples and monasteries across Sri Lanka.

As the Lunar New Year nears, let us continue to do acts of giving and cultivate generosity every opportunity we can, keeping in mind to be happy before, during and after giving.  Before giving, we are happy anticipating the opportunity to exercise generosity. While giving, we are happy that we is making another being happy by fulfilling a need. After giving we are satisfied having done a good deed.
