Nalanda commemorates Ajahn Buddhadasa

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Ajahn Buddhadasa’s passing (in May 1993). Nalanda commemorates his legacy and contributions to the Buddha-Sasana.

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme began at 9.00am today with meditation, pūja and chanting at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  Director of Nalanda Library Bro. Ananda Fong introduced the programme to the congregation in his opening remarks.  Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan then stated the purpose of this event, which is to introduce more inspiring Buddhist teachers to the Malaysian Buddhist community.

Bro.Tan giving a sharing on the purpose, value and importance of honouring Dhamma teachers, past and present.

It is stated in the Mangala Sutta that ‘honouring those worthy of honour is the highest blessing’. Indeed there is much we latter-day devotees can learn from our Buddhist greats – how they lived their lives wholesomely, conducted themselves according to the Dhamma, and their mode of spiritual practice.

The Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme runs for 5 days from today until Thursday, 5 September.  On Wednesday 4 September, Bro.Tan will be leading a meditation session and thereafter give a Dhamma teaching from 8pm to 10pm.  On Thursday 5 September, which is a New-moon Uposatha Day, we shall be conducting pūja and communal chanting, followed by a Dhamma Talk by Bro. Ananda Fong, also from 8pm to 10pm.  All are welcome!
