A wholesome welcome to the new year

A wholesome welcome to the new year

On the first Sunday Morning Service of the year, Ven. Wanarathana advised that we should not hold on to unpleasant events of the past, so that our minds do not dwell in negativity.

On Saturday 31 December, Nalanda members and devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to usher in the new year with good friends.   In the last hours of the year 2022, the congregation chanted and sat in peaceful meditation to radiate loving-kindness to the whole world as we ‘calmed down’ to conclude 2022 meaningfully and welcome 2023 wholesomely.

On the very next day, Sunday 1 January, the community again gathered for the New Year Day service to learn Dhamma from Ven. Wanarathana.  He advised us to recharge our spiritual journey by training our mind to be in the present moment.  It presented an opportune moment for devotees to make aspirations towards letting go of the past and being in the present moment.

On the night of 31 December, the New Year Eve service started at 10pm with metta meditation.

Bro. Charlie delivered the Society’s New Year Eve message, leading us in a reflection about the past year and considerations about the coming new year.

On 1 January, the congregation gathered at 9am for meditation, offerings and chanting.

Nalandians recited the Karaniya Metta Sutta as part of the 24-hour Metta Chanting.

The congregation respected welcomed Ven. Wanarathana.

“We should be mindful of this and not be caught up in these thoughts.”

Devotees askrf venerable sir about how we can better live in the present moment.

Devotees were grateful for the opportunity to offer lunch dana to Ven. Wanarathana.
