All-round New Year cheers

Bro. Tan wishing everyone “the best-ever” Lunar New Year celebrations.

Bro. Tan wishing everyone “the best-ever” New Year celebrations by applying the spiritual ‘recipe’.

There was good cheer all around on Sunday 22 January as Nalanda members and devotees gathered in Sri Serdang on the last Sunday before the Lunar New Year.  Bro. Tan gave an insightful talk on the ‘recipe’ for the best-ever celebration of the season – a chance to experience spirituality at every turn with our sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, thinking, and feeling.

Bro. Tan said that celebrating Chinese New Year is not just about eating, chatting, and entertaining our senses; it is an opportunity to strengthen bonds with family members and friends with meaningful conversations and activities.  He also urged Nalanda members to celebrate with grace, modesty and moderation, at the same time shunning unwholesome thoughts, speech, and deeds.

Celebrate a new YOU.

“This is not about celebrating a ‘new’ year… every year is more or less the same. But with wholesome qualities, it is even better to celebrate a ‘new YOU’ ” – Bro Tan.

After the Dhamma talk, the congregation recited ‘Paritta’ (stanzas of blessings) to wish all beings peace and joy.  Thereafter, many Nalandians paid respects and took leave from Bro. Tan before heading home for the New Year holidays, fulfilling a time-honoured custom of dutiful students.

A delightful custom and Nalandian tradition is taking leave before heading home every New Year.

We wish everyone a safe journey home, and have a meaningful holiday over the New Year this weekend.  ‘Bhavatu Sabba Mangalam’ – may all blessings be yours!
