‘Go Green’ at Family Fun Fair

We invite you to join the ‘Go Green’ initiative at Nalanda Family Fun Fair by bringing along your own food & drink containers, cutlery, and shopping bags to use this Sunday.  This simple gesture will considerably reduce the disposal of single-use tableware & plastic bags, which take decades to decompose.

The final sprint for Family Fun Fair

With just a few days to the Family Fun Fair, Nalanda Centre has been brimming with Dhamma School students, volunteers and supporters as the finer details of the Family Fun Fair are being finalized.  Volunteer briefings, stall arrangements, community engagement, exhibition booth preparations, and ‘pre-sales’ are well underway as everyone is gearing up to host friends, family and visitors this Sunday 28 July.

Reaching out with more ‘Care Bags’

On Saturday 20 July, Nalandians presented over 65 ‘Care Bags’ and supplies to the children and elderly of ‘Bodhi Homecare’ and ‘Wen Xin Old Folks Home’ in Cheras.  Rarely receiving visitors, the older residents chatted happily with our volunteers.  We were also inspired by the compassion of the caretakers who are fully committed to care for those less fortunate, but no less relevant.

5 days to Family Fun Fair

The countdown has begun – Nalanda Family Fun Fair is just 5 days away!  Proceeds from this much anticipated Fun Fair will support the construction of Wisdom Park, an educational facility to train competent Dhamma teachers and leaders, and to expand the operations of Nalanda Institute, Dhamma School, and Free School.

Dhamma talk by Venerable Sayadaw Nyanapurnik

On 30 June, Nalandians were honoured to welcome Sayadaw Nyanapurnik, Sanghanayaka of Nepal, back to Nalanda Centre for Dhamma teaching in conjunction with Nalanda Institute’s 12th anniversary.  Sayadaw advised us to use our intellect to discern the wholesome from unwholesome, and purify our mental states.  When we cultivate sīla (morality), we have a strong foundation upon which to develop samādhi (concentration).  Only then can pañña (wisdom) arise to eradicate defilements with Right Effort.  Sayadaw also reinforced the importance of associating with wise teachers and spiritual friends.

Joyful preparations for Family Fun Fair

Nalanda Dhamma School students have been revving up their creativity and collaboration to prepare for the Family Fun Fair.  This year’s Fun Fair, which will be held on Sunday, 28 July from 9am to 4pm, aims to raise funds for the construction of ‘Wisdom Park’ – an educational facility to train competent Dhamma teachers and leaders, and to expand the operations of Nalanda Institute, Dhamma School and Free School.

Family Fun Fair Community Outreach

For the past two weekends, Nalandians visited charitable homes to deliver food and supplies to the children and residents of ‘Pusat Jagaan Beribuan Kasih’ and ‘Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da-Ai Malaysia’. As part of Nalanda Family Fun Fair’s objectives towards community-service, we reach out to charitable homes every year and present necessary provisions to support their good work in caring for those in need.

Dhamma Family leaders’ training initiated in Johor Bahru

On Saturday 22 June, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch held its first Dhamma Family Leaders’ Training session for 18 members, getting ready for the formation of Dhamma Families in Johor Bahru later this year.  Trainees learned and discussed the Buddha’s teachings to strengthen their practice.  They were also trained in communication and facilitation skills, group dynamics, and the Nalanda Education Model.  The leaders will facilitate Dhamma Family gatherings in future to enable deeper learning and personal transformation.

Peaceful meditation retreat

On Wednesday 19 June, twenty-five meditators checked in at K. Sri Dhammananda Centre to attend a meditation retreat conducted by Venerable Gavesi.  After receiving clear instructions from Venerable on how to start, participants commenced their practice, alternating between sitting and walking meditation to hone their mindfulness for the next 5 days.
