New Year’s Eve blessing ceremony

As the year comes to a close, let us take the opportunity to reflect, express gratitude, and radiate loving-kindness to the whole world.  We invite you to come with your family and friends to ‘calm down’ to the New Year at Nalanda Centre on Sunday, 31 December.  We shall be having the traditional meditation, chanting and blessings from 11pm to 12am on New Year’s Eve to usher in 2018.  All are welcome.

Nalanda to host Ajahn Kalyāno

On 24 and 25 December 2017, Nalanda Centre will be hosting Ven. Ajahn Kalyāno, the abbot of Lokuttara Buddhist Monastery in Skiptvet, Norway, a branch monastery in the Thai forest tradition of Ajahn Chah.  Join us for a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Kalyāno on Sunday 24 December, at 8.00pm.

70 pilgrims begin their ‘Dhammayatra’

Following the successful two-week ‘Dhammayatra’ (pilgrimage) for Nalandian youths which just concluded on 4 December, another group of 70 adults from Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia and the Buddhist Fellowship of Singapore began their journey of Dhamma discovery to India and Nepal early this morning.

Dhamma mission to Johor Bahru

This afternoon, Nalanda Dhamma School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong led a group of 30 youths and students on a mission to Johor Bahru to help conduct a holiday Dhamma-learning camp there.

Opportunity to donate pillars

Nalanda Buddhist Society is currently constructing the ‘K. Sri Dhammananda Centre’ (KSDC) – a new facility offering more places for children and teenagers to attend Dhamma School in Sri Serdang.  The 4,500 sq.ft building will enable 120 students to learn Dhamma in a conducive and comfortable environment.

Last alms-round of the year

We invite you to offer alms to monks at the Jalan Besar morning market and Pasar Rakyat in Seri Kembangan on Saturday, which is Nalanda’s last educational Pindacāra of 2017.  The day’s programme begins at 7.30am with chanting at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang, followed by alms-round in nearby Seri Kembangan starting 8.30am.

Celebrating Nalanda ‘Education Day’

Message from Vijaya Samarawickrama, Chairman of Nalanda Education Committee

One of our most fascinating preoccupations concerns our origins as human beings. Our earliest ancestor can be traced back to a tiny microbe called Saccorhytus which ‘lived’ 500 million years ago and whose fossil remains were discovered in China recently.  After millions of years of evolution we left the members of the animal world behind and eventually earned the title of ‘manussa’  – ‘that which has a mind which can be developed’.
