Knowing qualities of a worthy student

On Sunday July 23, Sis. Santi was invited to give a Dhamma sharing on the qualities of a “worthy student” of Dhamma.  We often hear that, “when a student is ready, the teacher will appear”.  It means that when we are mentally ready for the Dhamma, anything around us can be the teacher, be it a person or an incident.

Reflections on the Three Jewels

On Sunday 16 July, Achariya Tan Siang Chye presented a talk about the true value of taking refuge in the Three Jewels. Taking refuge is a time-honoured tradition that began since the establishment of the Sangha.  With the arising of the Buddha comes the rediscovery of Dhamma; and with the enlightenment of the Buddha’s first five disciples, the Sangha (Buddhist monastic community) was born.

Nalanda Institute Malaysia is offering an 8-session course – BPS 102 Buddhist Studies in Mandarin – commencing 7 October 2017 at NEO Centre, Kuala Lumpur.  This free course is suitable for new-comers and students of Buddhism.  Enrolment is open to all aged 18 years and above, and proficient in Mandarin language.

Packing up Nalanda House for construction work

After 12 years of service as the base for our Dhamma School (since January 2005), Nalanda House will soon be demolished and rebuilt as the ‘K. Sri Dhammananda Centre’ to cater for bigger student enrolment and continued expansion of activities.

Tribute to Tuanku Abdul Halim

Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia offers our deepest condolence to the royal family and people of Kedah over the demise of Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the beloved Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman.  His Royal Highness passed away at 2.30pm today, aged 89.

Dhamma talk at Bodhi Vihara Terengganu

On Friday 8 September, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan visited Venerable Cattamalo Mahathera at Bodhi Vihara near Kuala Terengganu. He was joined there by members of Mettārama Meditation Centre from Kelantan, as well as Terengganu devotees.  Ven. Cattamalo, 83, was very happy to receive the visitors, and had a discussion on Dhamma with everyone.

One-day training for volunteers

The Nalanda Volunteer Centre (VC) was formally established on 1 May 2017 with the objective of engaging and growing our volunteer force.  A ‘Volunteer Induction Programme’ was organised on 29 July for regular volunteers to strengthen the spirit and culture of community service.

Calling Dhamma School teachers to National Camp

Many Dhamma School teachers will readily admit that teaching Dhamma to today’s children and teenagers is a very daunting task.  With plenty of sensual objects to distract them, coupled with little life experience and ever shorter attention spans, the younger generation seems to have “a lot more dust in their eyes” to see the need for Dhamma in their lives.
