Dhamma talk by Ven. Ñanukkamsa

At the weekly Wednesday meditation on 21 December, Nalandians lent ear to an enlightening Dhamma talk by Ven. Ñanukkamsa on the purpose of becoming a Buddhist.  In the Mahā Sāropama Sutta, the Buddha expounded that the purpose of holy life does not have gain or fame or even the accomplishments of virtue, concentration, or knowledge as its end goal.  Instead, its ultimate goal is to attain the unshakeable liberation of the mind.

Indonesian bhikkhus visit Nalanda

In December 2016, Nalanda was honoured to host Venerable Ñanukkamsa and Venerable Alokavamsa, two well-practised Theravada bhikkhus from Indonesia.   After a warm reception, the venerables were brought on a building tour and invited to meet participants of the Children’s Learning Camp which was held at Nalanda Centre that time.

Inspiring Teenagers’ Learning Camp

From 16 to 18 December 2016, Nalanda Dhamma School organized another wonderful teenagers’ learning camp themed ‘Inspector Me’.  74 youngsters ranging from 13 to 17 years old took part in the programme held at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.

Meeting of Dhamma speakers

A few days before Lunar New Year, the Director of Nalanda Institute Achariya Tan Siang Chye hosted a dinner for Dhamma speaker Dr. Punna Wong from Johor Bahru.  Also in attendance were senior Nalandian officers Bro. Ananda Fong, Sis. Sandy Lim and Sis. Santī Cheang. At the informal meeting, they discussed the upcoming WACANA 2017 Buddhist Conference which will be held on 1 July 2017.  Dr. Wong indicated his unequivocal support for the conference, which is themed “The Buddha Word – Discovering the Essential”.

Tzu Chi members visit NEO Centre

On Saturday 14 January, a group of 10 members from Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia paid an official visit to NEO Centre Sungai Petani. They were warmly welcomed by Nalanda branch leaders and members.  The visit was an initiative by Tzu Chi Merits Society to forge closer friendship with other Buddhist Societies locally.

The most powerful person in the world

On Sunday 27 November, Nalandians came together on ‘Samaggi Day’ for a Dhamma talk by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan on what constitutes ‘true power’.  Many people have the impression that ‘the most powerful person in the world’ is qualified by political position, wealth, the possession of weaponry, etc.  However, Bro. Tan said that this is merely a superficial and worldly view of ‘power’.
