Starting Gimhana Retreat together on Uposatha Day

Yesterday evening, on Thursday 6 June, devotees joined the first Gimhana Uposatha Service at Nalanda Centre, in the company of good spiritual friends on the new-moon day of the Jettha month.  In the serenity of Nalanda Centre, we calmed our minds with evening chanting, meditation and refreshed our understanding of the Gimhana Retreat with Sis. Nandinī Tan.

Today is the New-moon Day for the month of ‘Jeṭṭha’ according to the Buddhist Calendar.  On observance days such as these, we invite all Buddhist practitioners to spend this day wisely reflecting on the Dhamma, performing meritorious deeds, and deepening our practice by observing the Eight Precepts.

Leaders train in effective programming

‘Planning helps us get where we want to go’ – this indisputable statement was explored by Nalanda programme leads on Monday 3 June.  Guided by Ach. Tan Siang Chye, Director of Nalanda Institute Malaysia, 25 leaders of which many were new to programming explored the concepts, dynamics and implementation of learning objectives, learning outcomes and assessment to ensure that all the Society’s educational efforts are fruitful and beneficial to its participants.

Finding peace within at Buddha Jayanti Exhibition

From 21 to 26 May, the Buddha Jayanti Exhibition welcomed hundreds of visitors with its eye-catching exhibits and activities.  Organised and hosted by Nalanda Dhamma School, each of the art-work were hand-made by the School’s facilitators and students to relay messages of the Buddha on daily practices to develop a resilient and peaceful mind that stands firm amidst the influence of worldly conditions.

Official birthday of YDP Agong

This 3 June 2024, Malaysians celebrate the official birthday of His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on the first Monday of June.  Nalanda Buddhist Society offers our felicitations to Yang di-Pertuan Agong (His Majesty the King of Malaysia) Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.  We wish His Majesty the blessings of good health, happiness, peace and wisdom.

Annual Gimhana Retreat B.E. 2568

The Gimhana Retreat spans 6 June to 21 July this year and during this period, we endeavour to commit ourselves to a period of relatively intensive Dhamma learning programme and group-practice.  We welcome everyone to come and understand the Dhamma through guided, progressive, communal, and personal practice. The first Gimhana Uposatha Service is this coming Thursday 6 June, at 8pm.  On this new-moon day, let us gather for meditation, chanting and to learn the Buddha’s teachings.
