On Friday 15 January, seven teacher trainees from the Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Ilmu Khas Buddhist Society visited Nalanda Centre on a familiarisation tour. The trainees were accompanied by IPG Buddhist Society’s teacher-adviser Bro. Johnny Tan, and lecturer Bro. K. J. Teo. They were hosted by Nalanda youths who received their guests warmly and made them feel most welcome.

Many devotees were keen to start the New Year by performing wholesome deeds, and thus waited patiently to offer food to the venerables. Meanwhile, Nalandians took the opportunity to explain the significance of Pindacāra to passers-by and curious onlookers at the market.

Some had come days earlier to clean and spruce up the Centre after the week-long break. Everyone is delighted to see each other, and filled with enthusiasm to continue serving the community.

Nandini Tan gave a Dhamma sharing based on Ittha Sutta (Anguttara Nikaya 5.43) on “What is welcome”, where the Buddha taught the householder Anathapindika the five things which are ‘welcome, agreeable, pleasant, and hard to obtain in the world’. The five things are long life, beauty, happiness, status and heavenly rebirth.
