Service Sunday and appreciation luncheon

On Sunday 16 November, a fortnight after the successful hosting of ‘Xuan Zang – Journey to the West’ musical, a special Service Sunday and volunteer appreciation luncheon was held at Nalanda Centre.  The simple celebration was to express gratitude and appreciation to all volunteers who contributed towards the success of the Musical.  It was also an occasion to offer a special blessing service to Bro. Tan and his entourage who were leaving on a pilgrimage to India and Nepal the next morning.

Recharged for 2015!

Over the weekend of 14 – 16 November, 18 facilitators from Nalanda Dharma School Sri Serdang and KL Branch were at Port Dickson for a fruitful three-day annual retreat.  The aim of the retreat was to review the School’s performance throughout the year and the 2015 School structure and programmes were discussed.

BPS402 – Interesting Group Presentations

On Saturday 15 November, students of BPS402 – Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies Course were at Nalanda Centre to present their group assignments.  Seven groups were formed among the participants and the topic was ‘Expansion of Buddhism in South-east Asia’.

‘Pindacāra’ in Seri Kembangan

On Saturday 15 November, devotees and volunteers gathered at the Seri Kembangan morning market for our monthly ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round).  On this morning, four members from Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch joined the ‘Pindacāra’ programme for the first time.  They were eager to learn and to experience the joy of helping out at the ‘Pindacāra’ programme.

Experiencing Joy on ‘Sangha Day’ at Nalanda

Nalanda Buddhist Society observed our annual ‘Sangha Day’ on Sunday, 9 November.  On this important occasion, the Buddhist laity took the opportunity to express gratitude and support for the Sangha (monastic community) by offering robes and other requisites, thus practising generosity and humility through the acts of giving.

Dharma School Facilitators’ Induction Programme

The year may be coming to an end soon but Nalanda Dharma School facilitators are surely looking forward and ready for 2015!  On Saturday 8 November, 11 current and new Dharma School volunteers gathered at Nalanda Centre for a Facilitators’ Induction Programme.  The Director of Dharma School, Sis. Sunanda Ong conducted the session with the aim of acquainting new volunteers with the School’s objectives, approach and motto.  Through ice-breaking activities, the initial silence of awkwardness transitioned to laughter and joy among the volunteers.

2015 Nalanda Free School Tuition Class Schedule

The Nalanda Free School was established in June 2010 by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide free tuition and other educational support to academically-weak and needy students. We aim to provide quality teaching by caring tutors, and offer personal attention to help students' learning and comprehension by offering tutorials in important subjects such as languages, mathematics and science.

BPS402 – Lecture 10 on ‘Buddhist Arts & Culture’

On Saturday 8 November, two of Nalanda Institute’s distinguished lecturers, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama and Achariya Tan Siang Chye delivered the lecture on ‘Buddhist Arts & Culture’.  Students eagerly attended this last lecture of the 5-month BPS402 – Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies course.

Amazing ‘Xuan Zang – Journey to the West’ Musical

On Saturday 1 November, Nalanda hosted ‘Xuan Zang – Journey to the West’ musical at Istana Budaya.  More than 1,200 guests had a wonderful time attending the musical and were inspired by the true identity of Master Xuan Zang.
