Nalanda Free School Honours & Appreciation Day

On 2 November, students of Nalanda Free School, parents and volunteer teachers filled the Srivijaya Hall at Level 3 to attend the School Honours & Appreciation Day.  As the 2014 school year had come to an end, this is the occasion to pay tribute to the achievements of the students.  4 categories of awards were presented to students from each class after careful evaluation by their teachers.  The awards were the “Full Attendance Award”, “Best Student Award”, “Most Improved Student Award” and the “Most Enthusiastic Learner Award”.

Harmonious gathering of Nalandians

On Sunday 2 November, Nalandians from Sri Serdang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani Branches gathered at Nalanda Centre for Service Sunday.  After Service Sunday, Nalandians gathered for some updates on the latest developments of the Society.  Bro. Tan shared about the progress of the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project and some upcoming programmes.  Branch representatives also took this opportunity to update members on the progress of the programmes carried out by their respective branches.

Cheerful Singapore BF members visit Nalanda

On Sunday 2 November, just days after the visit by 90 Firefly Mission members, Nalanda was again honoured by the presence of another Singaporean group – a party of 40 cheerful Buddhist Fellowship (BF) members.  Led by its Deputy President Bro. Jerry Ong, the group was in Kuala Lumpur to watch “Xuan Zang – Journey to the West” musical.

Keat Hwa School students visit Nalanda

On Saturday 1 November, a group of 38 students and 2 teachers from the Buddhist Society of Keat Hwa Secondary School in Alor Star, made a half-day visit to Nalanda Centre.  They were warmly received by Nalandians, and thereafter everyone joyfully listened to a Dhamma sharing by Sis. Nandini Tan.

‘Pindacāra’ in Sri Petaling and Happy Garden

On Saturday 1 November, Nalanda’s monthly ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round) Programme was again held at the Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets.  Volunteers and devotees gathered at Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre Kuala Lumpur as early as 7.00am to start the day with pūja and chanting before proceeding to the nearby Sri Petaling market at 8.30am.

The ruins of the majestic ‘Nālandā Māha Vihāra’ stands proudly in the State of Bihar, India.  Even in its present derelict condition, the large foundations and thick walls of its structures still inspire awe in the thousands of people who visit it annually.

Venerable Ayyas’ visit to Nalanda Centre

On Wednesday 29 October, Nalandian officers warmly welcomed Venerables Ayya Aggavatī  and Ayya Cālā to Nalanda Centre for a familiarization visit.  Ven. (Sayalay) Cālā, a Malaysian ordained in the Burmese tradition, and Ven. (Sayalay) Aggavatī, a Burmese nun, are both studying at the International Theravada University in Yangon.

On Sunday 26 October, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur branches gathered at Nalanda Centre for the October “Members’ Day”.  This monthly gathering was an important occasion to catch up with our friends and to encourage one another in our spiritual learning and cultivation.

Service Sunday & Volunteer Appreciation

This Sunday 16 November, Nalanda will be hosting all volunteers of our recent successful staging of ‘Xuan Zang – Journey to the West’ musical.  We cordially invite all volunteers of the event to join in a simple celebration with appreciation luncheon at Nalanda Centre.  The programme runs from 9.00am to 11.30am; Bro. Tan will be giving a Dhamma teaching as well.
A hearty “Thank you” to everyone who has served selflessly in this successful campaign!  We look forward to seeing you at Nalanda Centre this Sunday.
