Today marks the 160th day since the Nalanda Centre Building Expansion Project began in mid-May. Overall, the annex building is 83% completed, while the remaining work is progressing well. The new roof structure spanning two lots is also 100% done. For these past few months, we are very thankful to have achieved a 100% safety record, thanks to good cooperation from the consultants, builders, sub-contractors, and Nalandians.
Read moreOn Thursday 2 October, the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Buddhist Society had another session of group meditation at Nalanda Centre. The sitting session was led by Venerable Chi Xiang (持向法师), who also gave the undergraduates a Dhamma talk. The UPM Meditation Group and Ven. Chi Xiang are regular visitors to Nalanda, having held many weekly sessions as well as a meditation retreat here.

Read moreOn 6 October, six-year old Ooi Zhi Ting was playing with her sisters, aged 15 and 11, in an apartment block’s swimming pool. The little girl from Penang reportedly suffered a leg cramp and sank to the bottom. A resident who witnessed the incident pulled Zhi Ting out of the water, and she was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the little girl passed away later.

The bulletin contains news on Nalanda’s recent events, essays by teachers, and interviews with volunteers. The previous two issues of the bulletin received very encouraging support from the community due mainly to its inspiring articles. To cater for increasing readership, 4,000 copies of Issue No.3 were printed and will be distributed nationwide this week.

Read moreNalanda Education Team (N.E.T.) members had their third monthly meeting on 11 October at Nalanda Centre, chaired by N.E.T. Chairman Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama. The N.E.T. was formed in August to gather all divisional and departmental heads of Nalanda Institute, Dharma School, Free School, and Pustaka Nalanda on one platform so as to better coordinate our educational programmes and services. Team members had a fruitful discussion on the agenda and programme for Nalanda’s National Members’ Convention to be held this December, where “Essential Education” will be deliberated and reviewed.
