Conclusion of Buddhist Studies Course in JB

On 25 and 26 October, the final two sessions of the Mandarin Buddhist Studies Course (Semester 2) was conducted by Sis. Nandini Tan at NEO Centre Johor Bahru.  Sis. Nandini gave separate lectures on the ‘Four Noble Truths’ and ‘Noble Eightfold Path’.  Six new participants joined the weekend’s class and showed great enthusiasm by arriving early at the Centre to learn the Dhamma.

BPS402 Lecture 8 – “Humanity & Sociology”

On 11 October, students of BPS402 Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies attended Lecture 8 after returning from a fruitful and enjoyable study tour to Bujang Valley a week before.  Achariya Tan Siang Chye explained the Indian social context and political structures that existed during the Buddha’s time.

Special Talk on Buddhist History in Kedah

On 10 October, Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan was invited to Central Kedah Buddhist Association in Sungai Petani to give a keynote presentation on the “Buddhist Presence in Kedah”.  The special talk was in conjunction with the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia’s “Dharma Walk” programme held at the same venue.  Members from more than 20 Kedahan Buddhist societies attended the event. Fabulous support for a delightful Concert

On 18 October, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch successfully held our inaugural fund-raising event – the “Melodies for the Heart” Concert – in Sungai Petani, Central Kedah.  The concert was an unequivocal success due to the great support and generosity of many benefactors and the effort of selfless volunteers!

Joyous ‘Kathina’ at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple

On Sunday 26 October, the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur was a hive of activity as more than 1,000 devotees thronged the vihāra for the annual ‘Kathina’ Robe-offering ceremony.  The presenting of ‘Kathina Robe’ is one of the ways for the laity to support and pay tribute to the Sangha (monastic order).  It is performed yearly after the conclusion of the “monastic rains retreat” (Vassāvasa).  We rejoice over the devotees’ faith and meritorious deeds.  Sadhu anumodana.

Ven. Narada’s books at Nalanda Library

Pustaka Nalanda (Library) holds a collection of Buddhist books authored by the late Venerable Narada Nāyaka Māha Thero (1898 – 1983), a prolific Dhamma teacher, speaker, writer and translator from Sri Lanka.  Some of his works such as the seminal “The Buddha and His Teachings” has become a classic ‘textbook’ for students of Theravāda Buddhism.

Nalanda Building Progress – 170th day

Today marks the 170th day since the Nalanda Centre Building Expansion Project began in mid-May.  Overall, the annex building is 86% completed, while the remaining work is progressing accordingly and is expected to be completed by December.  We are very thankful to have achieved a 100% safety record, thanks to good cooperation from the consultants, builders, and sub-contractors.
