Fruitful Nalanda Members’ Day in Sri Serdang

On Sunday 22 June, Nalanda Members’ Day was successfully held at Nalanda Centre, attended by members from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur branches.  During the training session, Nalanda’s Founder Bro. Tan walked the members through the meaning of membership in Nalanda, and reminding all Nalandians to stay focused on the mission and vision of the Society.

‘Selamat Berpuasa’ di Bulan Ramadhan

Today is the beginning of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan.  The practise of restraint is not just with regards to food, but also in our conduct, speech and thoughts.  We at Nalanda would like to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters “Selamat Berpuasa”, and a blessed Ramadhan Al-Mubarak.  Salam metta.

Learning to nurture resilience

On Sunday 22 June, devotees congregated at Nalanda Centre for a joyful Service Sunday.  After meditation, pūja and chanting, Bro. Tan delivered an inspiring talk on ‘resilience’.  He said that just as one requires physical stamina to carry out activities, resilience is required for continuous and fruitful cultivation of a good mind.

Delightful Evening with Āyasmā Kumāra

On Tuesday 24 June, Nalanda Centre was honoured to have Āyasmā Kumāra to deliver a Mandarin Dhamma talk with the title ‘以智慧面对逆境’ (“How to overcome adversities with Wisdom”).  When faced with difficulty in life, one should face it, accept it, and handle it with a positive mind and wisdom.

Fruitful workshop for young missionary bhikkhus

On 15 and 19 June, a workshop themed “The Young Buddhist Monk and His Role in the New Millennium” was held for Sri Lankan missionary monks based in Malaysia.  The two-day, multiple-session workshop was held at the Brickfields Buddhist Maha Vihara and the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul.

BCA Workshop on Effective People Engagement

On Saturday 21 June, the Buddhist Community Alliance* (BCA) organized a “People Engagement Workshop” – the third in a series of such workshops for Buddhist community leaders.  The workshop was held at Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS) in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.  Its objective was to establish a protocol and system of “People Engagement” for gradual adoption.  A handbook on “People Engagement” will be published as a guide for implementing it in the respective participating organisations.

Building expansion Progressing well

Tomorrow marks the 40th day since the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project officially began. We are very thankful that work is progressing smoothly and steadily.  Currently, 10.5% of the scheduled work is already completed.  We look forward to your support and contributions as the Centre will eventually be used by the entire community.  Let us work together in building it for the welfare of many!  Thank you and mettā.

‘Happy Buddhists’ attend Service Sunday

On Sunday 8 June, Nalanda Centre was again filled with devotees eager to learn Dhamma.  The morning Service began with pūja, chanting and meditation.  After which, the congregation was delightfully surprised by the unexpected presence of Bro. Tan, who shared words of wisdom about ‘happiness’.

Green enjoyment at Organic Farm

On Friday 13 June, a group of 7 teachers and 23 primary school students from Nalanda Free School (NFS) visited the Lady Bird Organic Farm in Semenyih.  The aim of this trip was to provide students with an enriching outdoor learning experience and to strengthen the fellowship between teachers and students.  The students were especially selected for the trip as a reward for their perfect attendance at Nalanda Free School since January!
