Free School students show their appreciation

To conclude a fruitful 2024 academic year at Nalanda Free School, its teachers, volunteers, students and their family members gathered on Saturday 7 December for the annual Appreciation Night. With much gratitude for the School’s teachers and volunteers for supporting the students’ development both academically and morally, students put their best foot forward in performances whilst parents shared heartfelt words of thanks.

Community gathers for Pindacara

On Saturday 7 December, the community around the Happy Garden and O.U.G. markets joined the monthly Pindacāra programme, a welcomed opportunity for many.  Hosted by members and volunteers of Nalanda Kuala Lumpur branch, volunteers continued to engage more market-goers’ whose interest were piqued by the sight of so many people presenting food and requisites to the monks.

Parenting workshop in Johor by Bro. Aggaphala Yap

On Saturday 7 December, Nalanda Dhamma School hosted a parenting workshop led by Bro. Aggaphala Yap for over 30 participants to learn and discuss how to address children's emotional needs effectively at different development stages, cultivate positive character traits and enhance parent-child relationships through effective communication.

Wishing Johor members a safe journey in Thailand

24 members and core volunteers of Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch have commenced their study tour to Thailand from 11 to 16 December. The group will explore Buddhist sites and monuments in Bangkok and the ancient city of Ayutthaya. The tour is led by Nalanda leaders Sis. Nandinī Tan and Bro. David Yap. We wish them safe travels and a joyful learning experience.

Educators gather on Nalanda Education Day

Every year, ‘Nalanda Education Day’ is celebrated on 11 December to mark the anniversary of the launching of Nalanda’s “Educational Philosophy,” which calls for a holistic approach in education leading to integral development of people.  On this occasion today, Nalanda educators from the various educational divisions gathered to review and discuss the effectiveness of Nalanda’s approach to our programmes and what principles we can incorporate to deepen the spirituality of the community.

Wondrous weekend of hosting Sangha members

If you had visited Nalanda Centre over the weekend, it is almost as if Nalanda Centre had transformed into a monastery!  Everywhere you looked, the sight of recluses donning robes of different brown hues with glistening-shaven heads brought serene and reverent energy to the building.

Buddhadhamma Foundation retreat led by Luang Por Viradhammo

Just this morning, we sent off Ven. Luang Por Viradhammo and 34 yogis after the completion of the Meditation Retreat organised by Buddhadhamma Foundation (BDF), Singapore. The 8-day retreat at Wisdom Park was held from Saturday 30 November to Sunday 8 December, and hosted by Nalanda members and volunteers who offered the facilities there as well as their service.

Well-wishes to Bhante G on his 97th birthday

7 December 2024 marks the 97th birthday of the most Venerable Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, a highly-regarded speaker, meditation teacher, and senior prelate in North America.  Fondly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana has been propagating Dhamma in India, Malaysia and the United States of America for almost 8 decades.

A wholesome weekend ahead at Nalanda

This weekend is packed with wholesome programmes and events at Nalanda.  At this moment, members and volunteers are receiving Sangha members from across Malaysia, and will be hosting them over the weekend as they attend a training event in Kuala Lumpur.  At the same time, volunteers are currently hosting a retreat organised by Buddha-Dhamma Foundation Singapore and led by Ven. Luang Por Viradhammo at Wisdom Park.

PBUPM students meet & learn at Nalanda Centre

With the start of the academic year at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), its Buddhist Society leaders initiated their Dhamma and fellowship gatherings at Nalanda Centre for their new members. Young and energetic, the group relishes the opportunity to receive guidance from spiritual teachers alongside like-minded friends in a conducive learning environment. They also formed a community that can support each other outside the lecture rooms.
