Nalanda Johor Bahru branch 12th A.G.M.

The 12th Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) of Nalanda Johor Branch was held on Sunday 2 March, with 24 members in attendance. The meeting commenced with a warm welcoming speech from Branch Chairperson Sis. Ong Ai Geok who thanked all members for a fruitful year together. Sis. Livin Leow also represented the Society’s Board of Management to deliver an opening speech to J.B. members.

Dhamma talk by Ven. Ajahn Nando

We joyfully invite you to join us this Friday, 7 March for an evening Dhamma talk by Ven. Ajahn Nando, who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He first encountered Buddhism at the age of 15 and felt an immediate connection to it. At the age of 21, he travelled to Thailand and stayed at Wat Pah Nanachat where he undertook Bhikkhu ordination at the age of 22 with Luang Por Liem Thitadhammo as his preceptor.

Insightful meditation retreat with Ven. Gavesi

From 14 – 23 February, 30 yogis embarked on ten days of intensive retreat under the guidance of Ven. Gavesi. They learnt to cultivate serenity and insight under the Mahasi tradition with daily teachings by Ven. Gavesi, extended sitting and walking meditation sessions, mindful eating, and group interviews with Venerable.

Wishing ‘Selamat Berpuasa’ to all our Muslim friends

Today is the beginning of the Ramadan month of the Islamic calendar. All around the world, Muslims will fast from food and drink from dawn till dusk. The holy month of Ramadan is regarded as a time for intense faith rejuvenation, spiritual reflection, prayer, cultivating self-restraint and having compassion for those who are less fortunate. The practice encourages Muslims to have patience and gratitude, perform good deeds, develop generosity and spending time with family and friends. The act of fasting and self-reflection cleanses and redirects the mind away from worldly and sensual pleasures and helps to purify one’s mind and rejuvenates faith.

Joyful beginning for Family Dhamma School JB

On 22 February, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch warmly welcomed over 40 returning students and new families to the first 2025 class of Family Dhamma School. The session began with a meaningful offering and communal chanting. To ‘break-the-ice’ everyone joined activities which fostered connections, familiarity and a sense of community.
