Luang Por Viradhammo talks about awareness

On Tuesday 19 December, Nalanda members and devotees joyfully welcomed Luang Por Viradhammo, Abbot of Tisarana Monastery in Ottawa back to Nalanda, 4 years after his last visit.  Grateful to learn from Luang Por in person, the congregation listened attentively to his talk about training the mind and to experience stillness within.

Dhamma School Appreciation & Honours Day

Every year on 31 December, Nalanda Dhamma School observes its “Appreciation & Honours Day” with facilitators, students and parents coming together to express their gratitude for each other, and to thank everyone for their dedication to Dhamma learning.  This year, for the first time, parents and children of the inaugural intake of Family Dhamma School will also be part of this endearing programme.

4th Memorial of Ven. Dhammavuddho

22 December 2023 marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of Venerable Dhammavuddho Mahāthera, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent who dedicated his life to the Dhamma.   Ordained in the Theravada tradition in 1986, he founded Vihara Buddha Gotama, a forest monastery in Perak dedicated to the practice and propagation of the Buddha’s discourses and monastic discipline.

Family Dhamma School learns Buddhist culture

Last weekend, from 16 to 17 December, Nalanda Family Dhamma School hosted a Dhamma Camp at Wisdom Park for their students, a very welcomed trip for the families after two joyful visits there earlier this year.  Guided by the School’s facilitators, the group of 60 were immersed in Dhamma living and deepened their understanding of Buddhist culture and its importance in our spiritual cultivation.

We joyfully invite you and your loved ones to join us for a Dhamma talk by Ven. Prof. K.L. Dhammajoti, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent and a leading scholar on the Abhidhamma, on Sunday 31 December at Nalanda Centre. Let us gather on this final Sunday Morning Service of the year to learn from Ven. Dhammajoti on the topic of “The Buddhist spiritual journey to true freedom — transformation of the total being” with spiritual friends.

Nalanda leaders learn at Global Conference on Buddhism

Just yesterday, Nalanda leaders and educators led by President Sis. Buddhinī Tan returned from the 12th Global Conference on Buddhism organised by Buddhist Fellowship, Singapore.  Over the past two days on 16 and 17 December, the Dhamma community gathered in this wonderful opportunity to learn from respected teachers both monastic and lay on the topic of ‘Life, Death and Rebirth’.

From 10 to 12 December, we were honoured to host Ven. Ayya Santinī, Abbess of Wisma Kusalayani in Bandung on her short trip to Malaysia, en-route to Singapore.  Nalanda members were very happy to get re-acquainted and learn Dhamma with Ayya Santinī in the evening talk on Tuesday 12 December.
