Nottingham Buddhist Society learns ‘kamma’ with Nalanda Youth

On Thursday 9 November, Bro. Ajit Lim delivered a Dhamma talk about the universal law of cause and effect (‘kamma’ and ‘vipaka’) at Nottingham Buddhist Society’s weekly gathering. It was an apt topic for the university students, to help them better understand how to face the many vicissitudes of life.  With the knowledge that every intentional thought, speech and action has its corresponding effect, the students reflected on how they can better direct themselves towards wholesome behaviours and a more meaningful life.

DLCY campers reunite after two months

On Sunday 5 November, participants of the Dhamma-living Camp for Young Adults (DLCY) reconnected with their Dhamma friends at the Reunion Day.  Gathering at Nalanda Youth Centre, they were happy to see their kalyana mittas again and reminisced memorable moments learning Dhamma together.

Youth Exchange Programme starts today

This morning, Nalanda youths and volunteers received participants of the “Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP)” who had travelled overnight from Ladakh.  Joyful to meet new Dhamma friends, both Malaysians and Ladakhis are eager to learn together and also learn more about each other over the next 10 days, with the commencement of YEP today.

Pindacāra & Dhamma talk by Ven. Sanghasena

In conjunction with the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme, we invite you to join Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) which will be led by Ven. Sanghasena, Founder and President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh, is visiting Malaysia until 25 November in conjunction with the “Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme”.

Last Sunday 5 November, Nalanda Teenage, Junior and Family Dhamma Schools in Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur concluded their year of learning with much joy and gratitude.  After months of camaraderie and support for each other, both facilitators and students shared their heartfelt reflections.

Meditation Night with Ven. Mettananda

We invite you to join us this Friday 17 November, for an evening of mental cultivation towards concentration, clarity and peace.  Suitable for both beginners and regular meditators, the Meditation Night guided by Ven. Mettananda will start at 8pm with evening chanting.  Ven. Mettananda, an Italian, ordained as a monk in 2011 in Myanmar under Chanmyay Sayadaw by Sayadaw U Indaka (Chanmyay Myaing Sayadaw).

Leadership Forum; our role in preserving the Buddha-Sāsana

In conjunction with the 2nd Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme, Nalanda Centre will host a special Leadership Forum on Sunday 19 November.  The forum features panellists Ven. Sanghasena Māhathera, Datuk Charlie Chia and Sis. Santī Cheang who will lead the discussion on the roles that monastics and laity play in preserving the Buddha-Sāsana.

Today is the celebration of ‘Diwali’, or ‘Deepavali’ in Malaysia, often called the “festival of lights”.  The light that abolishes darkness is symbolic of the triumph of goodness over evil; truth over falsehood; and wisdom over ignorance.  Nalanda Buddhist Society wishes our Hindu friends a joyous celebration of ‘Diwali’.  May your reunions with family and friends be filled with goodwill and peace!
