Pray for Libya

Powerful floods and the collapse of two dams in eastern Libya have devastated the city of Derna of around 100,000 people.  More than 5,000 casualties have been confirmed with fears that up to 20,000 people have lost their lives due to the number of neighbourhoods and communities destroyed.

Uposatha Service & Dhamma talk by Ven. Ariyadhammika

We invite you to join us this Friday 15 September on the new-moon day of the month Assayuja, for the evening Uposatha Service and a Dhamma talk by Ven. Ariyadhammika, Saṅghaṇāyaka of Sasanarakha Buddhist Sanctuary Monk Training Centre in Taiping. Ven. Ariyadhammika, who is from Austria, was ordained in 2005 in Myanmar with Pa-Auk Sayadaw as his preceptor and meditation teacher.

Gratitude abounds on Memorial Day

On Thursday 31 August, Nalanda members and devotees gathered to pay tribute to the late Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda, on the anniversary of his passing 17 years ago.  Remembering Ven. Dhammananda with much gratitude in our hearts, the congregation recollected his efforts grounded in wisdom and compassion which transformed the landscape of Buddhism in Malaysia and continues to benefit all of us today.

Pray for victims of earthquake in Morocco

On Friday 8 September , a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Morocco at around 11pm local time, killing more than 2,000 people and injuring tens of thousands.  An aftershock of 4.9 struck 19 minutes later. The earthquake’s epicentre was in the High Atlas Mountains, 71km (44 miles) south-west of Marrakesh, and caused severe damage for hundreds of miles.  The damage is particularly severe in parts of the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Come and join the Family Fun Fair at Nalanda Education & Outreach Centre Johor Bahru today.  Over 400 members, stall operators and volunteers have been streaming into the Centre since the early morning, and have set up more than 80 stalls offering food, drinks, vegetables, groceries, electronics, clothing and much more.

17th Memorial Day of K. Sri Dhammananda

31 August 2023 marks 17 years since the passing away of Venerable Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Thero who spent most of his life building and nourishing the growth of the Theravāda Buddhist community in Malaysia. It was due to his compassion and leadership, that many Buddhist societies were established since the 1960s and continue to benefit Dhamma learners and practitioners today.
