7th Memorial Day for Respected Teachers

29 September 2020 marks the 7th anniversary of the passing of eminent Tipitaka and Pāli Scholar, Venerable Prof. Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and renowned meditation teacher, Acharya Satya Narayan Goenka.  With reverence and gratitude, Nalandians pay tribute to Venerable Anuruddha and Goenkaji for their significant contributions towards humanity and to propagate Dhamma.  We wish both respected teachers the highest bliss of Peace, ‘Santi’.

Look after others by looking after oneself

On Sunday 6 September, Nalandians joyfully returned for the first Sunday Morning Service since Nalanda Centre was closed earlier this year due to the Movement Control Order.  Devotees were vigilant in observing the precautionary measures with understanding and mettā for the safety of everyone at the Centre.  In this service, Bro.Tan Siang Chye gave a Dhamma talk on how we enhance our lives through living not just for our own welfare, but also for the welfare of others.

Patience fosters peace of mind

In Dhammapada verse 184, the Buddha cited that the best moral practice is patience and forbearance.  Known as ‘khanti’ in Pāli, patient forbearance is motivated by wholesome desire for not only peace within, but also for the welfare of others.  One who cultivates patience lives with little hatred or remorse for others and lives harmoniously with the people around them.

Today, 31 August 2020 marks the 14th anniversary of the passing away of Nalanda’s late Spiritual Advisor – Venerable Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Thero.  Venerable Dhammananda played a significant role in the development of Buddhism in Malaysia and dedicated his life to bring Buddha-Dhamma to millions all over the world.

Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan Ke-63

Tomorrow on 31 August, we celebrate Malaysia’s 63rd anniversary of Independence, known as ‘Merdeka Day’.  The word ‘Merdeka’ is derived from the Pāli word ‘maha-iddhika’ meaning ‘possessing great power’.  It refers to the power given to Malaysians, having gained autonomy from colonial rule, to progress the nation through self-determination.
