Beginning of Vesakha month

Beginning of Vesakha month

Buddha Day 2016

Let us increase our efforts to learn and practise the Dhamma in honour of the Buddha.

Tomorrow is the New-moon day for the month of ‘Vesakha’.  Thus, we are just two weeks away from the most important day in the Buddhist calendar – Vesakha Full-moon ‘Buddha Day’, also commonly known in Malaysia as ‘Wesak Day’.

The theme for Nalanda’s ‘Buddha Day’ celebration this year is “A Life of Wisdom”.  There are many programmes lined up for the next few weeks, including Dhamma teachings, sutta studies, meditation, and alms-giving, culminating in the climactic ‘Evening of Dhamma’ on 21 May 2016.  These programmes attempt to underline the importance and benefits of living wisely.

The inaugural programme for the holy Vesakha month is the 7.30am morning pūja tomorrow (Saturday, 7 May) at NEO Centre Happy Garden in Kuala Lumpur.  This will be followed by the educational Pindacāra programme as monks go on alms-round around Taman O.U.G. market, starting at 8.30am.

Tomorrow evening, Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang will be hosting the New-moon Uposatha Service beginning at 8pm.  We shall observe this spiritual occasion with chanting, meditation, and Dhamma sharing.

We truly look forward to seeing everyone at Nalanda’s Wesak celebrations this entire month.  Let us increase our efforts to learn and practise the Dhamma in honour of our Great Teacher – the Buddha.  All are welcome!
