Nalanda Officers visit Kedah

Several senior Nalanda officers led by Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, arrived at Sungai Petani on 14 September for a brief visit to familiarize themselves with Kedahan Buddhist communities.  Besides Bro. Lee, the other officers include Honorary Treasurer Sis. May Wong, Assistant Secretary Sis. Mudita Chan, Manager Sis. Joyce Lim, KL Branch Pro-tem Chairman Bro. Eugene Yong, and KL Branch Assistant Secretary Sis. Ng Tung Yan.

Delightful September Pindacāra

On Saturday, 7 September, Nalandian volunteers and devotees gathered at the NEO Centre in Happy Garden for the morning invocation and puja before the monthly Pindacāra.  Upon completion of the alms-round at the Taman O.U.G. morning market, we headed back to NEO Centre for a Dhamma sharing by the Director of Nalanda Dharma School Sis. Sunanda Ong.

Festive Mid-Autumn fellowship gathering

On Saturday, 7 September, Nalanda Dharma School students, parents and devotees gathered at the NEO Centre in Happy Garden, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival in a meaningful way.  Opening the session with puja and chanting, it was followed by a Dhamma sharing by Sis. Faith Teh.

Another fruitful visit to Johor Bahru

It was another packed weekend at NEO Centre as Bro.Tan came on his monthly visit to Johor Bahru.  He gave a Dhamma teaching in English on Saturday 24 August, in memory of Sis. GG Tan, Julie Ang, Lee Ah Yem, and Jennie Cheong who passed away in an accident 4 years ago while on a visit to India.  Bro. Tan gave another uplifting talk in Mandarin on Sunday 25 August, in honour of Nalanda's late Spiritual Advisor Ven. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero.

Nalanda Branch Officers’ Meeting

The first Nalanda Branch officers’ meeting was briefly held on Saturday, 13 July at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  15 Nalanda officers from 3 branches – Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Petani – met with Nalanda President Bro. Lee Kong Foo, Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, Secretary Sis. Buddhinī Tan, Treasurer Sis. May Wong, and (Acting) Branch Development Director Bro. Charlie Teng.

Nalanda Officers’ Workshop (N.O.W.)

The first Nalanda Officers’ Workshop (N.O.W.) for 2013 was held on Saturday, 13 July at our spiritual home - Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. 64 Nalanda officers from 5 divisions and 4 branches (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Kedah) took part in this workshop.

Uposatha Puja & Talk at NEO Centre Johor Bahru

On Monday 8 July, Bro. Tan led the New-moon Uposatha Day Puja at NEO Centre Johor Bahru. After which, Bro.Tan gave an uplifing talk on the purpose of spiritual cultivation, which is to develop the ability to view things from a 'Dhamma prism' and hence obtain Right Views. The talk was very well-attended, which saw a packed Shrine-Hall. Attendees included a group of devotees from Metta Lodge led by Dr. Wong Yin Onn, and Singaporean devotees from the Buddhist Fellowship.

Parenting Talk at NEO Centre Johor Bahru

On Tuesday, 25 June, a special parenting talk by Bro. Aggaphala Yap was held at NEO Centre Johor Bahru.  Bro. Yap is a professional counselor specializing in youth-related issues.  The talk was well-attended, and participants found the sharing relevant and most useful to communicating with their teenage children.

Learning Pāli Chanting at NEO Centre Johor Bahru

Bro. Tan made a special visit to NEO Centre Johor Bahru on 2 June to teach devotees there the proper way to conduct Pūja.  In his 3-hour sharing, Bro. Tan showed the way to pay respect, to recite the opening and closing gathas, to chant the homage, refuge-taking, five-precepts, and salutations in Pāli.  Devotees expressed amazement and great appreciation for the knowledge and understanding gained from the productive session.  Sadhu!

Monthly Pindacāra at Taman O.U.G. on 1 June

'Bhikkhu', the Pāli word for monk, literally means one who goes on alms. On Saturday, 1 June, a team of Nalandians and volunteers gathered at the NEO Centre in Happy Garden early in the morning for chanting and invocation. Having taken refuge in the Three Jewels and undertaken to observe the Five Precepts properly, with renewed aspirations, the team set out to the Taman O.U.G. market and prepared to commence the Pindacāra (alms-round).
