Missionary spirit shines in Members’ Forum

In the last 2 days, Nalanda members have been deeply exploring the theme “Towards a Buddhist Missionary” at the 9th Nalanda National Members’ Convention being held at Wisdom Park.  This culminated in a forum this afternoon, to learn from the personal life stories and motivations of three dedicated members who have each persevered in their Dhamma learning and service to the Buddhist community.

Welcoming Ajahn Jayanto after a decade

Just 2 days ago on Friday 1 December, Nalanda had the priviledge of hosting Ajahn Jayanto at Wisdom Park, whose last visit with us was exactly a decade ago at Sri Serdang.  Ajahn was introduced to the educational campus, its objectives and programmes carried out for the community, to which he rejoiced and encouraged us to continue providing these opportunities for Buddhists not to only learn Dhamma, but to cultivate continuous mindfulness in order to purify the mind.

JB Free School Appreciation Night

On Monday 20 November, Nalanda Free School Johor Bahru teachers, students and parents gathered for the annual ‘Appreciation Night’.  Sis. Alice Yap, Coordinator of the Free School in JB hosted this joyful event to celebrate the progress of the students throughout the year, recognising improvements in their academic subjects, as well as values such as kindness and helpfulness.

On 25 to 26 November, Johor Bahru Branch Management Committee held their Branch Development Meeting joined by Nalanda President, Deputy President, Assistant Secretary and Executive Secretary.  In this important meeting for the branch, leaders chart the direction in moving forward and discussed management matters with the branch core members.

Pindacāra & Dhamma talk by Ajahn Jayanto

We invite you to join us for Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) led by Ajahn Jayanto, on Saturday 2 December at the Taman O.U.G. (8.30am) and Happy Garden (9.30am) morning markets.  After the alms-round, we also invite you to join us for a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Jayanto, followed by offering of lunch dāna to the Sangha at NEO Centre, Happy Garden. You may bring along cooked vegetarian food and fruits to offer.  All are welcome!

BPS 204 study tour to Bujang Valley

On the long holiday weekend of 11 to 13 November, Nalanda Institute Malaysia organised a special study tour for BPS204 - Intermediate-level Buddhist Studies in Mandarin participants to Bujang Valley, Kedah.  Participants from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bharu and Sungai Petani explored the rich history of Buddhism in the north of the peninsula, led by Nalanda Institute Officer Sis. Sandy Lim.

Ven. Sanghasena leads pindacāra at O.U.G & Happy Garden

On Saturday 18 November, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch was honoured to host Ven. Sanghasena for pindacāra (monks on alms-round) at the local morning markets.  Market-goers and vendors who were familiar with the monthly programme (held on the first Saturday of every month) joyfully offered requisites to the Sangha, with gratitude for the added opportunity to do good.

In conjunction with the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme, we invite you to join Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) which will be led by Ven. Sanghasena from Ladakh.  The alms-round will commence at OUG and Happy Garden markets at 8.30am and 9.30am respectively, on Saturday 18 November.

BPS 204 sets-off for Bujang Valley

Early this morning, participants of BPS 204 – Intermediate-level Buddhist Studies in Mandarin, started their journey to Sungai Petani from both Klang Valley and Johor Bahru.  This study trip forms part of their curriculum, to gain better understanding and insight into the arrival of Buddhism in Malaysia some 2,000 years ago.  We wish the lecturers, participants and volunteers a safe and fruitful learning journey this weekend.  Sadhu!

Nalanda leaders gathered for training

On 28 to 29 October, 65 Nalanda leaders from Serdang Headquarters and Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani Branches came together to refresh and realign in their missionary.  Over these two days, the group explored various aspects important to their roles including the Society's Code of Conduct, ways to manage challenges and resolving issues in leading teams, and the importance of continuous learning.
