Pindacāra & lunch dāna at NEO Centre KL

We invite you and your loved ones to join us this Saturday 1 July, for the monthly Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) at Taman O.U.G. (8.30am) and Happy Garden (9.30am) morning markets.  After the alms-round, you are also welcome to join the offering of lunch dāna to venerable members of the Sangha at NEO Centre, Happy Garden.  You may bring along cooked food and fruits to offer.  All are welcome!

Insightful meditation with Ven. Alokavamsa at NEO KL

On 8 June 2023, Venerable Alokavamsa was invited to lead the weekly Thursday meditation session at NEO Centre, Kuala Lumpur.  Venerable hails from Indonesia and was residing in Nalanda for 3 weeks to visit different Buddhist centres around Malaysia. The session started with chanting and a simple guidance for meditation on ways to observe the breath.  Venerable Sir then delivered a teaching on Ānāpānasati (Mindfulness of the Breath) with reference to Mahā-satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, a discourse on ways to develop mindfulness (大念处经 DN 22).

Youths lead study tour of Bujang Valley

From 3 to 5 June, 36 Nalanda youths and members embarked on a journey of discovery to Bujang Valley in this first study tour organised by Nalanda Youth Centre.  The group which was led by Youth leaders Bro. Yeo Disheng and Bro. Lim Ajit, immersed themselves in the rich Buddhist history in the north of the peninsular dating back to 1st Century BCE.

Generosity around every corner

On Saturday 3 June, the community gathered once again to participate in the monthly Pindacāra (monks on alms round) at the O.U.G. and Happy Garden markets.  On this occasion, Ven. Alokavamsa and Sayalay Mitta Devi from Indonesia afforded the laity the opportunity to partake in the wholesome deed of supporting the Sangha.

Mandarin Dhamma Camp in Sungai Petani

Nalanda Sungai Petani branch is organising a Dhamma Camp from 29 June to 1 July, with the theme “Living a meaningful life with the Noble Eightfold Path”.  Venerable Lim Sukhito will be the main speaker for this camp to lead participants in understanding the Noble Eightfold Path and practising it daily to live a purposeful and fulfilling life.

Hosting our Southern BPS 104 friends at Nalanda

On Friday 19 May, BPS 104 participants from Johor Bahru visited Nalanda Centre on the way to their stay-in programme at Wisdom Park.  The group led by JB core volunteers Sis. Angie and Bro. Gan, was warmly welcomed by Nalanda members upon their arrival, and learned more about the Society and its programmes from Nalanda Centre Director, Sis. Nandini.

Hosting Ajahn Visalo at Nalanda

From 5 to 7 May, we were honoured to host Ajahn Visalo, an Indonesian monk, who received his monastic training from Wat Pah Nanachat, Thailand where he currently resides.  A gentle and compassionate monk, Ajahn Visalo lent his presence to the Buddha Day programmes and relayed kind words of advise to the congregation.

Community comes together at NEO KL

This morning, the community at the OUG and Happy Garden markets came together to make offerings to Mahā Sangha.  Whilst many regular supporters joyfully prepared and made offerings to venerable monks, curious onlookers also joined in after understanding the purpose of the deed and this simple way to support members of the Sangha.

Joyful learning with good friends at BPS 104

In the past weeks, participants of BPS 104 have been engaged in joyful learning at the basic Buddhist studies course in Mandarin.  Having completed seven of the eight sessions at NEO Centres in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani, they have forged friendships as they reflect on the lectures and share their insights with each other.
