Qualities for a noble life

On 29 September, Bro. Tan Siang Chye delivered a Dhamma talk on humility and modesty.  Modesty is the outward sign of a truly humble person, who lives a simple life, without the need for status or the urge to be higher than others.  Pride, conceit and arrogance are the opposites of these qualities.  These unwholesome traits trap people in prisons of their own creation, and prevent them from progressing on the Noble Eightfold Path.

Happy ‘Malaysia Day’ 2019

Today marks the 56th anniversary of the formation of ‘Malaysia’ – a federation of 13 states spanning the Malay Peninsula, Sarawak, and Sabah.  Our beloved home, a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, continues to enjoy peace and harmony today as a result of our fellow citizens’ mutual respect, understanding and acceptance.  We wish all Malaysians a joyful celebration of nationhood.  “Dirgahayu Malaysia”!

Nalandians head up north and down south

Early this morning, 2 groups of Nalandians set out from Sri Serdang to spend a wholesome weekend in the northern and southern states of Malaysia, respectively.  From 6.30am, Nalanda Centre was already teeming with over 100 devotees gathered for morning chanting before they started their journeys to Sungai Petani and Johor Bahru.

Inspiring journey to Ladakh

From 23 August to 2 September, a group of 35 Nalandians led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan travelled to Ladakh for the trip of a lifetime.  Ladakh is a region administered by India, located in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent at 15,000 ft above sea level, on the Karakoram mountain range.  The group was privileged to be hosted by Ven. Sanghasena Mahathera, and was warmly welcomed upon arrival at Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC).

Bearing gratitude on Memorial day

31 August 2019 marked the 13th Anniversary of the late Ven. Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda’s passing.  Nalanda members and devotees honoured our late Spiritual Adviser with a commemoration ceremony in the morning.  After the meditation, puja and chanting, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama delivered a Dhamma talk on the benefits of gratitude and appreciation.
