10-year Memorial Service in Ladakh

On Sunday 25 August, a memorial service was held at Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh – Ladakh, conducted by Ven. Sanghasena.  35 Nalandians, led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan, were present to personally honour our dear sisters – G. G. Tan, Julie Ang, Jennie Cheong, and Lee Ah Yem – who lost their lives in a tragic accident whilst on a charitable mission there.

In Memoriam – A decade in passing

On the fateful day of 25 August 2009, while travelling on a charity tour to help build schools and welfare homes in Ladakh, four of our dear Dhamma friends – G. G. Tan, Julie Ang, Jennie Cheong, and Lee Ah Yem – met with a tragic road accident that caused them their lives. Today marks the 10th anniversary of their passing, and a group of Nalandians led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan is now in Ladakh to pay special tribute for their services rendered to the Buddha-Sāsana.

More ‘Care Bags’ reach the needy

From 4 to 12 August, Nalanda members and volunteers had the priviledge of presenting ‘care bags’ and supplies to charitable homes and the needy around Klang Valley.  With many fair-goers stepping forward to donate towards the ‘Care Bag’ project during the recent Nalanda Family Fun Fair 2019, we were able to choose suitable food items and provisions to help those less fortunate.

On Sunday 18 August, Datuk Charlie Chia gave a Dhamma talk on the topic of ‘Generosity’ during the Sunday Morning Service at Nalanda Centre.  In our spiritual journey on the Noble Eightfold Path to achieve freedom from suffering, we must hone our virtues including the important quality of generosity.

Fruitful observance of Gimhāna Retreat

For seven weeks after the Buddha’s Enlightenment on Wesak full-moon in May, He contemplated on the Dhamma with His perfectly clear faculty of comprehension.  Then, He travelled for seven days from Uruvela to Sarnath where He preached the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta on Asalha Day, the full-moon in July.

Thank you to ‘Family Fun Fair’ volunteers

Last Sunday 4 August, we invited volunteers and stall operators of the recent Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ 2019 for a simple lunch to thank them for their contribution towards the success of the event.  The Organising Chairperson, Sis. Evelyn expressed her deep appreciation to everyone for their support in hosting the largest Family Fun Fair to-date.

A meaningful ‘Dhamma Day’

On Wednesday 17 July, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to observe ‘Dhamma Day’.  This auspicious occasion fell on the full-moon of the month Asalha; it commemorates the preaching of Buddha’s first discourse after His Enlightenment, when He taught His first five disciples the fundamental teachings of ‘Four Noble Truths’.  The celebrated discourse – ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’ – reverberated throughout Nalanda Centre as Bro. Tan led devotees in reciting it.
