Plant trees to celebrate ‘Earth Day’

On 13 April 2019, Nalanda Buddhist Society will be celebrating ‘Earth Day’ by planting more trees at Wisdom Park.  Nicknamed the “Green Warriors of Wisdom Park”, groups of volunteers have been planting local forest trees there almost every weekend since 12 months ago.  As of 31 March 2019, 402 trees and hundreds of shrubs have been planted, making the campus grounds truly pleasant as well as rehabilitating its environmental vitality.

A respectful way of life

On Sunday 10 March, Nalanda was honoured to host Venerable N. Jinananda, the President of Buddhist Monks’ Council of Canada for a Dhamma talk.  Venerable shared that the teachings of the Buddha is based on respect for oneself and others.  After His Enlightenment, the Buddha gazed at the Bodhi tree out of gratitude, a teaching to us to bear respectful mindsets even for inanimate objects.

Cultivating a respectful attitude

On 3 March, Bro. Benny Liow gave a Dhamma talk on ‘Cultivating Respect’ at Nalanda Centre.  In Latin, re spectum means ‘to look more carefully’.  Thus, to respect someone is to know them better, to look at their good qualities, and where appropriate, to honour those qualities.  The Buddha said that the ability to give respect is in itself a great blessing.

Sangha members visit Nalanda

On 12 February, we hosted 12 venerable monks visiting Malaysia from Sri Lanka.  Led by Venerable Nandaloka Thero, the venerables toured Nalanda Centre and K. Sri Dhammananda Centre.  They were also introduced to the objectives of Wisdom Park at the exhibition gallery.

Hosting friends from Vihara Dhamma Mulia

On 23 January, Nalanda Centre hosted friends visiting us for the first time from Vihara Dhamma Mulia, Batam.  Warmly welcomed by Sis. Nandini Tan and Nalanda officers, they were brought on a tour around Nalanda Centre, K. Sri Dhammananda Centre and Wisdom Park Exhibition.

Good response to Adult School

The last day of ‘Centenary Celebrations’

17 March 2019 marks the last day of the year-long ‘K. Sri Dhammananda Centenary Celebrations’ which brought Buddhists across Malaysia together to celebrate the life and contributions of the late Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda (1918 – 2006).  The Centenary Celebrations was launched exactly a year ago on 17 March 2018 at the Buddhist Mahā Vihara, Kuala Lumpur.

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s 16th A.G.M.

All members of Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia registered at Sri Serdang headquarters are reminded to attend the 16th Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 17 March.  Members will review last year’s activities, and discuss the Society’s latest development plans.   The 2019-2021 term Board of Management will also be elected at this A.G.M.  Let us come together to chart our future!

Another ‘dark day’ for humanity

This afternoon, a lone gunman stormed into two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and opened fire randomly at worshipers, killing 50 people and injuring dozens others.  Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described this act of terrorism as one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”.
