The people have spoken – they must be heard

On the historic day of 9 May 2018, the people of Malaysia have spoken loud and clear.  In a courageous move, the Rakyat* repudiated a regime that was seen as corrupt, racist, and not in line with our collective aspirations.  But we did not effect change in a violent revolution — that is not the Malaysian way.  We did it by discovering a national conscience, and through exercising our constitutional right to vote.

Today marks the 15th anniversary of Nalanda Buddhist Society.  I feel blessed being around with so many members who are attending the Sixth National Members Convention here at Nalanda Centre.  There are many supportive conditions over the past 15 years which caused all of us to be here today – I believe our gathering is not by mere chance.

This afternoon, we will be welcoming Nalandians back to our ‘spiritual home’ at Nalanda Centre for our 6th National Members’ Convention.  This year’s convention will be the biggest yet, with 61% of members able to attend the 4-day gathering, many coming from as far as Kedah and Johor.

K. Sri Dhammananda Centre updates

We are happy to report that construction of the proposed ‘K. Sri Dhammananda Centre’ continues to progress smoothly with only 32% of work remaining.  The Centre’s interior is gradually being fitted out, and work has shifted to the exterior façade.

Marking ‘Earth Day’ at Wisdom Park

22 April is celebrated as ‘Earth Day’ in more than 170 countries with meaningful activities to promote environmental awareness and responsibility.  Nalandian volunteers marked the special occasion by planting trees at the site of Wisdom Park in Hulu Selangor.

Meeting of TBCM Monastic Advisors

On Thursday 5 April, the Monastic Advisory Panel (MAP) of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) met for the first time since its establishment.  The meeting held at Bandar Utama Buddhist Society was called by the MAP to discuss an upcoming Sangha gathering in July.
