4th Memorial Day for teachers

Today marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of eminent Pāli Scholar Venerable Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and renowned meditation teacher Acharya Satya Narayan Goenka.  Nalanda Centre will host a simple tribute to both teachers at 7.30pm this evening with meditation and chanting.

Flags lowered for the last time

On Saturday 9 September, Nalandians gathered for the last time at Nalanda House to conduct a blessing ceremony before it was handed over to the contractors for demolition and reconstruction.  The ceremony began at 4.30pm with flag-raising to the chant of ‘Jayamangala Gatha’.

Teaching Dhamma through drama

After a spirited opening yesterday morning, the inaugural National Camp for Dhamma School teachers shifted into higher gear on this second day, with the main speaker Bro. Tan talking about teachers’ competencies.  The essence of successful Buddhist education, he asserted, lies in having competent teachers who embody and exemplify the Dhamma.

Welcome to Dhamma teachers’ camp

This Thursday 21 September, we look forward to welcome 150 participants to the 4-day inaugural National Camp for Dhamma teachers at Kinrara Resort in Puchong.  Nalanda Buddhist Society, the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM), and the Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School (BISDS) are jointly organizing this camp to discuss how to share the Buddha’s teachings in a systematic, engaging, and effective manner to the younger generation.

Today marks the 54th anniversary of the formation of ‘Malaysia’ – a federation of 13 states spanning the Malay Peninsula, Sarawak, and Sabah. Knowing qualities of a worthy student

On Sunday July 23, Sis. Santi was invited to give a Dhamma sharing on the qualities of a “worthy student” of Dhamma.  We often hear that, “when a student is ready, the teacher will appear”.  It means that when we are mentally ready for the Dhamma, anything around us can be the teacher, be it a person or an incident.

Reflections on the Three Jewels

On Sunday 16 July, Achariya Tan Siang Chye presented a talk about the true value of taking refuge in the Three Jewels. Taking refuge is a time-honoured tradition that began since the establishment of the Sangha.  With the arising of the Buddha comes the rediscovery of Dhamma; and with the enlightenment of the Buddha’s first five disciples, the Sangha (Buddhist monastic community) was born.
