17 June 2017 marks the 99th birth anniversary of the late Venerable Ajahn Chah of Thailand.   Nalandians humbly pays tribute to this great monk who was one of the most influential and revered Dhamma teachers of the modern era.  Thus, today is ‘Ajahn Chah Day’ at Nalanda.

Nalanda Members’ Day in June

Nalanda members from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur Branches are requested to attend our monthly Members’ Day this Saturday 17 June, from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm, at Nalanda Centre.  In the midst of our Gimhāna Retreat, it is also timely that we gather to encourage one another in strengthening our Dhamma learning and practice.

Additional stop on Seri Kembangan ‘Pindacāra’ route

On Saturday 17 June, Nalanda is organising the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ (Monks on alms-round) programme in Seri Kembangan with an additional stop.  Besides the usual route at Jalan Besar market, the venerable monks will also go for alms at Pasar Rakyat Bazaar located in neighbouring Bukit Serdang.

Kitchen extension provides vital link

On 30 April, Nalanda members from all branches gathered at our ‘spiritual home’ in Nalanda Centre for the three-day 5th National Members’ Convention.  It was the opportune time to officially open the newly-completed kitchen extension, which added valuable working space to our growing community.

Last session on Dhammapada course

Nalanda founder Bro.Tan will be giving the concluding teaching on the ‘Dhammapada’ at the Buddhist Maha Vihara this Friday, 16 June, at 8.00pm.  This session marks the end of his series of six teachings there which began in March.

“Sri Lanka Relief Fund” closing Friday

The devastating floods which hit Sri Lanka recently caused hundreds of deaths and resulted in widespread damages to infrastructure, homes, and temples.  Nalanda had set up a fund to help with relief and recovery work in Sri Lanka.  We are grateful to the public who donated generously to help affected communities there to recover from this critical disaster.

Landmark agreement to revitalise Buddhism in India

Sanghasena Mahathera and his two key assistants from Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh – Mrs. Dorma and Ms. Kunzang – on their recent visit to Malaysia from 18 to 20 April.  Ven. Sanghasena was here to conduct discussions with Nalanda founder Bro. Tan on plans to help revitalise Buddhism in India.

Hosting a monk of compassion

Nalanda Centre recently hosted the renowned social-reformer and inspiring teacher – Venerable Sanghasena Mahathera – on his trip to Malaysia.  Ven. Sanghasena, who is the Founder and President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh, arrived from India for a 3-day visit from 18th to 20th April.

‘June Treble’ starts this Sunday

This Sunday marks the third week of Nalanda’s ‘Gimhāna Retreat’, which focuses on one’s spiritual growth and personal transformation by living in accordance to Dhamma.  Nalanda founder Bro. Tan will be performing the annual “June Treble” – giving Dhamma teachings on three consecutive Sundays on June 11th, 18th, and 25th – where he will be covering the three most important essence of Dhamma practice.

Branching out beyond ourselves

On Sunday 9 April, Nalanda Centre hosted Dr. Punna Wong Yin Onn, who came all the way from Johor Bahru, to present a talk on Buddhist leadership, titled ‘Branching out beyond ourselves’.  Dr. Wong shared that leadership means the ‘act of influencing people towards a certain direction’.  In doing so, it is vital for Buddhist leaders to have Right Understanding, Right Thought, and other factors of the Noble Eightfold Path.
